Martillo Clegg 0,5kg con bluetooth
Tool for monitoring the hardness and surface characteristics of golf courses
The CIST/883 golf course gauge, designed and manufactured by SD Instrumentation Ltd, provides an easy and straightforward means of measuring variations in fairway strength and helping to determine the evenness of an area. The equipment consists of two 0.5kg hammer probes that work independently in a vertical guide tube.
The system includes a golf ball-sized dome probe and a flat end probe. The probe falls through the guide tube when it is released and hits the surface under test, decelerating at a rate determined by the stiffness of the golf course surface in the region of impact. The reading device is attached to the guide tube and the displayed reading is visualised from the top during use. The single-button operating design makes it easy to use.
Principle of operation
The tester consists of a pair of 0.5kg probes. The two probes are shown on the right. The one on the left is the domed probe whose diameter is the same as a golf ball. The probe on the right has a flat face 50 mm in diameter. Both probes are supplied with the equipment, allowing for different test regimes. The chosen probe is placed in the guide tube and supported by the cable. When released, it falls through the guide tube and hits the surface to be tested, decelerating at a speed determined by the rigidity of the material in the impact region. The reading records the hardness values in units of Gravities (Gm). The Gm value is an indication of the soil's resistance.
Test results
The stiffness - or ‘hardness’ of the surface, related to the bounce and roll of the ball, can be quickly established and it is easy to monitor changes in stiffness due to changes in humidity, grass growth and wear over the course of playing seasons. Typically, readings below 75 indicate a soft surface and readings close to 100 indicate a well-controlled surface for excellent ball striking and accurate play. The test data is recorded on the instrument and can be downloaded to a computer wirelessly via Bluetooth.

Benefits
High-precision surface testing
- The hardness of the sports field or golf fairway is easily measured and the results displayed and stored are useful indicators of the bounce and roll of the ball during play. Variations in the strength of fairways can be due to construction processes such as compaction and stabilisation, environmental effects such as changes in moisture content, and also differences in compaction caused by specific use at a specific location.
- The tester provides a quick and accurate method for monitoring variations in strength and for helping to determine the uniformity of an area. An example of its simplest application is to help determine soft spots or hard areas.
